By India Today Web Desk: If you are a resident of a hilly area, then you need to be on alert. According to the forecasts of the Indian Meteorological Department, people residing in higher altitude areas of Himalayas need to be careful for the next 48 hours.

With the monsoons reaching the northeast India, winds carrying moisture have started blowing in the areas below the Himalayas. As a result, clouds are looming large over the hilly areas from Sikkim till Nepal.
HEAVY RAINFALL EXPECTED IN UTTARAKHAND , HIMACHAL

Rain-clad winds have reached the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand all the way from West Bengal.


On one hand, these winds have reached the northern states, on the other weak western disturbance is passing over the mountains. As a result of these two weather systems, there is heavy probability of thundershowers and rains in areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal. Heavy rains have also been recorded in some parts in these two states.

Under these circumstances, residents of places like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamnotri and Gangotri have been asked to stay vigilant atleast for the next two days.

Amid this, valley areas of states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar also have high probability of heavy rains for the next 4-5 days. But these are post-monsoon rains, not monsoon rains.SLOW MONSOONS


The monsoons, however, have slightly lost strength. Weather department said that monsoons have started shifting from Gangtok in Sikkim to southern areas like Gadak, Kaarwal and Angol.

Experts believe that monsoons may pick pace only after June 18, after which there was a possibility of a low pressure area developing in West Bengal.

Soon after this, heavy monsoon rains may be expected.

RELIEF IN DELHI, NCR

In northern areas such as Delhi NCR, Haryana and Punjab, dust storms accompanied by light rains are expected over the next three days. Delhi and NCR have been witnessing heavy winds and slight rainfall since the past week. The situation is likely to continue over the next three days.
